Dymo 69110 LabelWriter 400 Turbo Reviews
Dymo makes great label printers, I have had several over the years and have appreciated each one.
My only compliant is the labels fade with time.
I would have given the Dymo 5 start is the labels did not fade over time.
I use several of these to print barcoded product labels. We print a large number of labels monthly and have never experienced a problem with these printers. The print is clear and always readable with our barcode scanners.
Generally speaking I am a big fan of DYMO label makers and have used them for years. But the 400 is my first foray into postage, which is why I bought it.
Generally performance is good but the product has limitations based on its software. Specifically the limitation is that postage amounts are based on a drop-down menu, rather than allowing the user to simply type in the postage amount due. Drop-downs do not allow for the vast variety of postage options out there, such as surcharge for square envelopes on international letters.
Example: you want to send a square envelope to Germany. The drop-down only has options for sending rectangular envelopes to Mexico, Canada, and the rest of the world. So you're stuck. Either you send it without the surcharge postage amount (and it comes back to you) or you have to print out a guzillion 1-cent stamps, which you would never do because of the cost of the labels. If the dang think would simply allow you to type in the amount of postage you need, this wouldn't be an issue. The only way for me to get around the international surcharge issue is to use the $1.17 stamp for 3-ounce packages, but this means the post office unnecessarily eats a free three cents every time I send a square envelope to Europe. Really dumb.
I would say this product is ideal for anybody dealing with largely domestic postage but becomes awkward when dealing with a largely international audience. DYMO can make this a perfect product by allowing users to type in their amount postage amounts.
Unit works relatively well, I had to run the installer a number of times to get it to work correctly on Windows Vista. The software seems fine and indicates it is supported on the Dymo site, but the installer is antiquated and needs help. Once I finally got it installed it works fine.
We purchased the 400 Turbo with the intent to use it to replace our outdated mailing label system that required us to keep multiple copies of labels on hand. The reasons we purchased the 400 Turbo were 1) QuickBooks integration and 2) speed of printing.
I took the printer out of the box at 8:30am and had it integrated with QuickBooks and printing our logo and return address on every label in under 45 minutes. The printer itself was working faster than that.
Highly recommended.
